Richard Low's Cassandra Tutorial (CASSANDRA-01-02)
CODE: CASSANDRA-01-02          DURATION: 2 DAY/S
Richard Low's Cassandra Tutorial covers everything you need to know to successfully build applications using Cassandra. You will also learn how to deploy, scale and maintain your Cassandra cluster.

In this Cassandra course you will both learn how to develop with Cassandra, including about data model concepts, application design, APIs and drivers, as well as how to administer Cassandra: you will learn all aspects of implementing your first cluster, configuring it, scaling it as well as covering diagnosis, troubleshooting and operational tips.

You will also learn about capacity planning and sizing.

LEARN HOW TO:
Upon completion of this Cassandra training course, you will have a deep understanding of:
  • How Cassandra works
  • How to build applications for Cassandra
  • How to run a Cassandra cluster in the real world
  • Design - learn how to model your application using Cassandra's datamodel, and cover topics such as denormalization, using an intuitive example case study.
  • Internals - learn how Cassandra operates under the hood, and learn why you have to do things the way you do.
  • How Cassandra distributes data between machines and deals with failures and recovery.
  • Operations and how to run a Cassandra cluster, how to diagnose problems, how to monitor and tune Cassandra.
  • Common maintenance operations
PROGRAMME

Day 1 Morning

  • Cassandra and Acunu introduction and installation
  • Application design: data modelling, APIs, de-normalisation, examples, use cases
  • Distribution: consistent hashing, replication, consistency levels

Day 1 Afternoon

  • Operations, management, scaling and monitoring
  • Troubleshooting: failure recovery mechanisms, bootstrapping and decommissioning

Day 2 Workshop

  • Data modelling, capacity planning and sizing workshop
  • Sample deployment use cases
  • Certification exam

IS THIS COURSE FOR YOU?
If you are a developer, administrator or software architect, Richard Low's Cassandra Tutorial is for you. Gain a deep understanding of how Cassandra works, establish how to build applications for Cassandra and learn how to to run a Cassandra cluster in the real world.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
To benefit from Richard Low's Cassandra Tutorial, you should have basic programming skills in Python or Java, prior to attending. Some basic Unix skills are also required, to be able to benefit from the operations section in this Cassandra course.

Some prior knowledge of SQL would be advantageous, - examples are given as comparisons to simple SQL statements.

COURSE LABS & EXERCISES
This Cassandra course combines a mix of tutorials and hands-on Workshops completed by a certification and an individual coaching session 2 weeks after to review the implementation of what you have learned.

We recommend you bring your own laptop, capable of running VMWare Player, however, Skills Matter can provide you with this equipment if you prefer (just let us know prior).
