Leadership, Value & Visibility
10:00-10:45 WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE AN AGILE COMPANY
Allan Kelly: Everyone wants to be Agile, or so it seems. But what does that mean? What does the Agile company do that others don't? There is more to being an Agile company than doing Scrum. In this talk Allan Kelly will consider what it means to be Agile and what you need to do to be an Agile company, rather than a company which just follows an Agile method. In doing so he will discuss customers, project design, strategy and portfolio management and how these need to work together to achieve Agility. more...
11:00-11:45 SUCCESSFUL AGILE TEAMS
Jan Machacek: Jan's "successful agile teams" talk looks at the team dynamics in agile, applied particularly to projects that involve creating software. You will learn about the stages of team formation and the impact on the team's velocity and the quality of the code the team produces in each stage. Jan's talk will explore what happens when the team members work well together as well as what happens when they don't and--most importantly--how you can keep improving the collaboration between your team members as well as their skills. Ultimately, Jan's talk will show you how to go about getting some work out of teamwork and give you the guide to "herding cats".

SCRAMBLE: Collaboration & Teamwork
09:30-10:15 LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE WITH RETROSPECT
Rachel Davies & Liz Sedley: Lean and Kanban makes problems that impede an organisation visible. To improve, we need to do more that see a problem, we need to reflect about root causes and consider what's really slowing us down and what we can do to avoid this happening. Lean has the concept of "Kaizen" building a continuous improvement culture. So how do we implement that?
Many teams using Kanban hold Retrospectives. This is an interactive session about how can we make retrospectives effective. more...

11.30 - 12.15 MAKING 'MANAGEMENT' WORK WITH AGILE
Patrick Kua: Agile methods often talk about self-empowered, self-starting teams controlling their own environment. This often implies a contradiction in responsibility and authority for the typical manager role. During this talk, we'll look at some of the implications of agile methods and what impact it has on the typical manager role within an organisation. We'll also explore why management is still needed and what it looks like in an agile environment. more...

11:30-12:15 SOFTWARE QUALITY – YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU
Erik Doernenburg: Software quality has an obvious external aspect, the software should be of value to its users, but there is also a more elusive internal aspect to quality, to do with the clarity of the design, the ease with which we as technologists can understand, extend, and maintain the software. But how can we see quality? This session explains how visualisation concepts can be applied at the right level to present meaningful information about quality. more...
