AGILE SPECIFICATIONS, BDD AND TESTING EXCHANGE 27-11-09

Following the excellent response to our Agile Testing and BDD community events and courses during the last 10 months, Skills Matter is proud to organise the first, annual Agile Specification, BDD and Testing eXchange - an intensive and intimate event aimed at bringing together leading thinkers and passionate community members.

The aim of this eXchange is to promote awareness and adoption of modern Agile Testing techniques and ideas. With Dan North providing the conference keynote and two Parkbench sessions, the programme is structured to encourage discussion and bring together the leading thinkers and passionate members of the UK Agile Development and Testing community. With a maximum number of 125 delegates, we aim to provide an informal and intimate environment where you can share experience, demonstrate new ideas and techniques, talk to the experts and generally have lots of fun.

Gojko Adzic has kindly agreed to be the Programme Lead, and is currently working with Antony Marcano, Lisa Crispin, Dan North, Liz Keogh and David Evanson on an interesting and exciting set of talks!

Register today
To event aims to provide a real opportunity to share ideas, learn and discuss, so we have limited the number of delegates to 125 only.

Sponsorship
As with all Skills Matter eXchanges, we are trying to provide the community with an opportunity to learn and share ideas and experience at the lowest possible cost. Any help is therefore greatly appreciated! There are a variety of sponsorship packages available, if your organisation would like to help us support this event for the Agile developer, bdd and testing community. For further details about sponsorship packages, please contact Skills Matter's Community Manager Natalie Gray

Agile Specifications, BDD & Testing - Track 1
10:00-11:00     HOW TO SELL BDD TO THE BUSINESS -
Dan NorthDan North: I don't care how you do it - I just want it better, faster and cheaper and I don't want you to keep bugging me...Software delivery shouldn't be a zero sum game where you have to choose between writing quality software, showing bottom line results and having fun. In this talk, Dan shares his experiences of introducing BDD and Agile principles to senior stakeholders and business executives. View the podcast here...

11:05-11:50     LESSONS LEARNED IMPLEMENTING AGILE - FROM A TESTING PERSPECTIVE
Janet GregoryJanet Gregory: Many teams have tried to implement agile software practices and failed. When you read about it, it sounds so easy. What happened? Janet Gregory, co-author of the Practical Agile Testing course, will share some of the lessons she has learned when working with teams that help agile teams be successful. She will talk about what to avoid, what is critical, and some basic practices that can make the difference between success and failure. One example of a critical practice is using the whole team approach, and what happens when your team keeps your test team separate. View the podcast here...

 11:55-12:40     CHALLENGE REQUIREMENTS
Gojko AdzicGojko Adzic: In this presentation, Gojko Adzic will try to convince you that the established models of gathering requirements in software projects are bad and present an alternative model that leads to much less rework, more consistent specifications with less functional gaps and ultimately happier customers.  13:45-14:30     PARKBENCH PANEL DISCUSSION
: After lunch we'll hold a ParkBench Panel discussion, to discuss ideas, things we learned, things we would like to hear more about. Ask your questions to the speakers of the morning expert talks or join the panel to express your opinion or share your experience! View the podcast here...

 14:30-15:15     FRACTAL BDD
Elizabeth KeoghElizabeth Keogh: In this talk, co-authored with Eric Willeke, Liz will explore how the higher-level principles behind BDD work consistently at every scale, from analysis through to code and deployment. View the podcast here...

15:20-16:05     NARRATIVE ACCEPTANCE TESTS - A BEHAVIOUR DRIVEN APPROACH
Antony MarcanoAndy PalmerAntony Marcano & Andy Palmer: Acceptance Tests elaborate a user story & are essentially behaviour specifications, expressing examples of how the application will actually be used. These should represent customer-intent in terms the customer understands. View the podcast here...

16:10-16:55     TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY: UNDERSTANDING THE DUALITY OF AGILE QUALITY
David EvansDavid Evans: When considering quality assurance in agile environments, we are faced with many important dualities. In particular, functional vs non-functional views of quality. Remembering that testing is a measurement activity, and that agile success is about making educated and conscious trade-offs concerning scope, quality and time, our focus should move from asking 'what' to 'how well' when critiquing the acceptability of a product View the podcast here...

 17:00-17:45     PARKBENCH PANEL DISCUSSION
: After a brief serving of Pizza & Drinks, we'll hold the second ParkBench Panel discussion of the conference, to discuss ideas, things we learned, things we would like to hear more about, things to take away after the conference. Ask your questions to the speakers of the afternoon's expert talks or join the panel to express your opinion or share your experience! View the podcast here...
