About Steven Jones

|
Steve Jones is the Innovation Unit Managerof Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is the UK's leading charity offering information, support and advice to around 1.8 million people with sight loss. Our Innovation Unit finds technical, service and business solutions to access to information issues experienced by blind and partially sighted people.
RNIB strategy has been informed by talking to blind and partially sighted people about what their everyday concerns and frustrations are. Time and again people have told us about the difficulties they face in three main areas: Getting to and from the shops; Finding the products you want and knowing what's available; and Paying for your items.
Mobile technology presents an opportunity to address these problems. However, there are challenges in the use of mobile technology for those with serious sight problems. By translating these challenges, an access problem becomes a technical requirement - and one that RNIB would like to tackle … with help from interested parties. RNIB Innovation welcomes contact from bodies or individuals seeking dialogue regarding technical solutions designed to deliver accessible services.
Steve says, " It's outrageous that people are cut off from information and new technology. We would like to offer our support to the Android developer community, in order that new applications are made accessible to those with sight problems. I would encourage developers to contact us in order to ask for an opinion on current application development"
