Flex on Java eXchange 2010: Tomas Lin on What can Grails do for me? Building Flex Applications with Grails.
What can Grails do for me? Building Flex Applications with Grails.
Grails is a highly productive rapid application development framework that brings many of the benefits from Rails and Django into the Java world. Its powerful and extensible plugin architecture lets developer quickly and easily integrate existing Java libraries like BlazeDS and Lucene. Powered by the Groovy dynamic language and built with familiar Java technologies like Spring and Hibernate, Grails provides a compelling platform for developers looking for a faster and more elegant way to build Flex and Java applications.

This talk will briefly introduce the Grails and Flex ecosystem, highlighting some benefits, architectural insights and lessons from real world projects. I will then demonstrate two Grails plugins that facilitate the development of Flex applications. In our first example, we will use the Grails Flex Scaffold plugin to build a Flex 3 application. In the second example, I will demonstrate how to use the newly released BlazeDS plugin to integrate a Grails backend with the Flash Builder 4 Model Driven Development workflow.
