London XForms User Group:XForms in the insurance industry
XForms in the insurance industry
XForms is attracting a growing following for use in small data-entry forms, dynamically-generated by content management systems and work flow engines. But what about large forms, such as those for buying mortgages and insurance products, filling in tax returns, applying for a passport, and so on? Can XForms help make it easier to build and maintain these kinds of applications? No one can answer these questions better than today’s speaker; Neal Champion, a Solutions Architect at 1st Software. Neal has worked in the life insurance industry for many years. During the course of his work at a number of different companies he has pushed for the adoption of XForms as a convenient way to implement industry-specific data-capture and business rules. He has also played a key role across the industry in helping to educate companies on the use of XForms to create standard output and cut costs.

Nail started by explaining the importance of forms in modern life like in finance, officialdom and even joining the gym. Moreover, form is especially important in financial services in some ways the forms is the product. He then added that paper have some problems coping with the financial services’ forms like the lake of validation and much more.

Being a key proponent of the use of XForms in the insurance industry Nail described the peculiarities of the financial services and why XForms is a better solution. Financial services have multiple parties in the process and multiple systems as well. In addition, its XML standards are already in place. XForms in the other hand are lightweight and easy to deploy, naturally deals with XML, portable, style-able and lightly coupled.

Finally, Nail ended the session with a demonstration of how 1st Software used XForms to build and maintain large scale forms used in the insurance industry. Then follow by a group discussion.
