Progressive .NET Tutorials 2011: Nathan Gloyn on You Think You Know Agile?
You Think You Know Agile?
Agile has been around for 10 years and everyman and his dog are apparently using agile in their day to day work.

Question is: are they actually agile?

In this session we will answer that question by firstly going to look at what we are trying to achieve by using agile, and then move on to talk about the various current main stream methodologies that people use, namely Extreme Programming, Scrum & Kanban comparing and contrasting each methodology discussing their relative strengths and weaknesses.

Once we have this understanding of what we are trying to achieve and the methodologies people are using we'll move on to look at the latest thoughts, techniques and methods in the agile world including lean thinking and what it brings to the table.

Tom and Mary Poppendieck's Lean Software Development Leaders Workshop

As global competitiveness comes to the software development industry, the search is on for a better way to create first-class software rapidly, repeatedly, and reliably. Lean initiatives in manufacturing, logistics, and services have led to dramatic improvements in cost, quality and delivery time; can they do the same for software development? The short answer is “Absolutely!” This intensive two day workshop aimed at leaders will help you apply lean principles such as Rapid Response, Constant Learning, Built-in Quality, Local Responsibility and Global Optimization to software development. Kevin Ryan's Kanban Workshop

Kanban is an agile process methodology built upon the principles of lean thinking. As a project management discipline, it is intended to maximise value, eliminate waste and foster learning within the development organisation. This Kanban Workshop will introduce you to skills and practices that will enable risk management, information generation and technical delivery. We explore how to apply lean and Kanban to maximise value, reduce lead times and create a culture of continuous improvement. Find out more here.

Martine Devos' Certified ScrumMaster and Estimation Class

Martine Devos' two day ScrumMaster and Estimation class will teach you the fundamental principles of Scrum, qualifying you as a Certified ScrumMaster. Leading a Scrum team is radically different to traditional project management. Rather than plan, instruct, and direct, the leader of a Scrum team (called a ScrumMaster) facilitates, coaches and leads. In this intensive and highly interactive workshop, you will learn to deal with the obstacles that confront Scrum teams. You will also put theory into practise through a variety of exercises and take-aways to use with co-workers. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be enrolled as a Certified ScrumMaster.
