In The Brain of William Louth: Metering Software Activity and Resource Usage in the Clouds
Metering Software Activity and Resource Usage in the Clouds
With the emergence of cloud computing services such as Amazon's EC2 and Google's AppEngine,
in what way is it possible to charge users for the amount of resources they actually consume?
William Louth talks about ways of performing cost analysis and metering of software based on resource costs, including the usage of storage, execution time and bandwidth. Instead of being charged a monthly bill of some certain amount, using the tools he presents it is possible to provide an itemized breakdown of this cost, proportionate and respective of the actual usage. In the talk, William Louth explains the importance of the provision of a means of correlating users' activities in a compute cloud directly into the costing of a company.
