Scala, A better language for finance?!
Alex has built systems in a wide range of languages - however for the past two years he has coded almost exclusively in Scala, a language that combines functional and OO features, runs on the JVM and interoperates seamlessly with Java. After describing some of the areas of Scala that are of particular interest in financial development, Alex talks about the reasons Scala improved his team's productivity, reduced the size of the codebase and eased maintainance. He makes the case that Scala should be a serious contender for any development where C++ or Java might have been considered.
