London Lua:Lua with Android using AndroLua
Lua with Android using AndroLua
Join us at Skills Matter for the London Lua Meetup in September.

AndroLua is a demonstration project by Michal Kottman which bundles Lua 5.1 and LuaJava as an application you can run on your phone or an emulator. The version I will demonstrate implements a simple TCP server so that one can open an interactive session on a host machine. Only weighing in at 260Kb, AndroLua provides access to most Android APIs directly through Java reflection. It is a good way to learn the capabilities of this OS without a time-consuming compile-upload-launch cycle, and Lua modules and other assets can be uploaded to a running program. I will show how the dynamic nature of Lua and its support for first-class functions makes Android application development more pleasant and productive.

Droidcon UK 2012 (October 25th-26th)

Droidcon London is famous for its unconventional and innovative format that mixes dynamic social activities on day 1 with conference sessions on day 2. On the first 'barcamp'-style day, delegates are invited to present short talks based on their professional interests. Everyone's participation is encouraged to cultivate the day's atmosphere of camaraderie in debate. Alongside the day's dynamic content is a selection of activities, displays, and talks. The second day takes a more traditional approach with keynote presentations and 4 tracks of talks devoted to the best in current Android development, design and business.

Gavin Bell's Creating Social Applications

Creating a successful social application means building a model of a task we commonly do and understanding the social motivations for your community and the individual. The task and the community may vary widely, but the concepts of social objects and the smallest useful application (or minimum viable product) give focus to the design of the application. Gavin Bell’s two day Creating Social Applications course teaches you how to create social applications for the web or mobile, as described in his book. Find out more here
