JAVAWUG:Restful Services and RESTeasy
Restful Services and RESTeasy
REST is becoming an increasingly popular and effective way of delivering Web-based Data Services. With the JAX-RS standard it is now easy for Java developers to develop and deploy REST services. In this talk we'll be looking at the JBoss JAX-RS product (RESTeasy) and showing how you can deliver your first REST application.

Review:
In this talk, Daniel Silva talks about web applications and web services in general. Louis Emmett focuses on RESTful services with JBoss and includes a live demonstration making use of those services.

Representational state transfer (REST) refers to a collection of network architecture principles which outline how resources are defined and addressed. Systems which follow REST principles are often referred to as “”. RESTEasy is a JBoss project that provides various frameworks for building RESTful Web Services and RESTful Java applications. It implements the JAX-RS specification which provides a Java API for RESTful Web Services over the HTTP protocol. RESTeasy can run in any Servlet container. The RESTEasy JAX-RS Client Framework brings JAX-RS to the client side and allows mapping of outgoing HTTP requests to remote servers using JAX-RS annotations and interface proxies.

The same REST service endpoint can feed a range of clients (JSON, XML, HTML). RESTEasy provides JMS Facade, allowing REST API usage of underlying JMS provider.

More information on RESTful web services can be found on SUN's website.
