The Challenges of Scaling Out Clustered and Grid Applications
In this talk Brian Oliver discussed some of the challenges faced when scaling out clustered and grid-based applications, especially in Java. He addressed the issues caused by large-scale concurrency, cache consistency and the reliability required to perform in-memory analytics (queries) and transactions using clustered caches. Finally he examined techniques to reduce the need to transfer information between applications and caches (co-locating processing & data) to maximize system performance, reduce network traffic and enable massive scaling out. The presentation was use-case and example driven, focusing on what does and doesn't work. Demonstrations were based around the features of the latest Tangosol Coherence Release (3.2) Download the slides here
