GGUG:Exploring the Power of JSecurity in Grails
Exploring the Power of JSecurity in Grails
Adding access control to a Grails application is easy with the JSecurity plugin, but many people stick to using simple roles. This talk will explore using permissions and custom realms to create a more flexible, robust, and powerful access control system.

Review:
Peter Ledbrook, a valuable committer of the Grails project and author of the JSecurity plugin introduces JSecurity and demonstrates important features of the plugin with live examples in this talk.

JSecurity is a flexible framework, which can be used for authentication, access control, cryptography, and session management. Rights management and access control are the two main subjects of Peter's talk.

A role determines what someone is allowed to do and what he/she is allowed access to. They can be defined as collections of permissions. The live examples give details of how to use permissions like postPermission and wildcardPermission. Realms are used to decide if a user has permission to do something or not. Each realm should work for a particular authentication system. Example applications used for the presentation can be accessed here.

ABOUT THE GGUG
The Groovy & Grails User Group was founded in 2007, a few months prior to the first Groovy & Grails eXchange.

The Groovy & Grails UG aims to meet once every month or so, providing an opportunity for Groovy & Grails experts, programmers and enthusiasts to learn, meet and discuss.

The Groovy & Grails UG (UK) also discusses events and ideas on the G&G UG (UK) LinkedIN Group
