In The Brain of Brendan McAdams: MongoDB on the Java Virtual Machine
MongoDB on the Java Virtual Machine

MongoDB and the Java programming language boast a deep affinity; but the places where MongoDB is proving strongest are on Java’s Virtual Machine... (JVM) itself rather than the Java language.

This talk explores the deeper relationship between the MongoDB database and various languages on the Java Virtual Machine such as Java, Scala, Clojure, JRuby and Python as well as the challenges posted getting MongoDB to play nice with these tools and their syntax. Also examined will be frameworks and integration points popular between MongoDB and the JVM such as Spring Data, Morphia and Lift’s MongoDB-Record component

Ian Robinson & Jim Webber' Neo4j Tutorial // 10th & 11th September

Join Ian Robinson & Jim Webber for this hands-on, 2-day Neo4J Tutorial at Skills Matter London September 10th - 11th.

Ian Robinson is Director of Customer Services at Neo Technology, the company behind Neo4J. Jim Webber in turn is Neo Technology’s Chief Scientist and runs the Neo4J User Group in London. Both are international speakers and keen to share their insider Neo4J expertise with you.

The Neo4J Tutorials are a mixture of theory and hands-on practical sessions that enable you to discover the true capacity of graph data and Neo4J databases. The practical aspects of this Neo4J course consist of Koan-style lessons where a specific part of the Neo4j stack is presented as a set of failing unit tests which participants will work to fix. You will participate in gradually more complex and challenging exercises until you’re capable of implementing sophisticated graph operations with Neo4J.

Graph databases like Neo4j are an esoteric and powerful member of the NOSQL family. For highly connected data, graph databases can be thousands of times faster than relational databases, making Neo4j popular for managing complex data across many domains from finance to social, and telecoms to geospatial.
