In The Brain of Brian Oliver: The Challenges of Scaling Out Clustered and Grid Applications
The Challenges of Scaling Out Clustered and Grid Applications
In this talk Brian Oliver discussed some of the challenges faced when scaling out clustered and grid-based applications, especially in Java. He addressed the issues caused by large-scale concurrency, cache consistency and the reliability required to perform in-memory analytics (queries) and transactions using clustered caches. Finally he examined techniques to reduce the need to transfer information between applications and caches (co-locating processing & data) to maximize system performance, reduce network traffic and enable massive scaling out. The presentation was use-case and example driven, focusing on what does and doesn't work. Demonstrations were based around the features of the latest Tangosol Coherence Release (3.2)
