Elegant software that just so happens to use Spring
You often hear people say, "use JEE 6: you'll be able to write standards-based applications," or "use Spring: it is the best way of writing enterprise applications," or, even still "Java is dead; .NET is the only way forward". A much better approach is to say that we should write good code. Code that is made up of sharply defined, loosely-coupled, testable components. The frameworks and runtimes are here only to support our software design goals.

In this SkillsCast video recorded at a SkillsMatter In-the-Brain session, you can hear Jan Machacek's views on contemporary [Java] application design goals, the most suitable frameworks and development methodologies. Jan shows that, in his opinion, on the JVM, the Spring Framework will give you the best results with the least effort. But we won't stop there. Jan is not a fortune-teller, so he cannot give predictions about the future of programming languages and development approaches. However, he is able to explore the emerging ideas that you should know about to keep yourself at the edge and to allow you to adopt the next big thing in the programming world.
