Scala Days 2012: on Scala and Ruby - Differences and Similarities
Scala and Ruby - Differences and Similarities
Kota Mizushima talks about differences and similarities between Scala and Ruby.
On the surface, it seems that Scala , which is a powerful statically-typed language, differ considerably from Ruby, which is a famous dynamically-typed language. Of course, there exist many many differences between two languages. However, according to my observations, there exist many similarities between them, too. For example, both Ruby and Scala provides higher-order "methods" mainly, not "functions" in contrast to many functional programming languages.
Throughout the comparisons (including practical perspective), I would like to clear up the goodness of Scala and the issues learnable from Ruby.
