Looking forward to having .NET Rocks at #ProgNET 2017!

Join Carl Franklin and Richard Campbell as they take you on a tour of the broad range of subjects they've explored recording more than 1400 episodes of .NET Rocks over the past 10+ years. The development world today is evolving rapidly, but a look at the history of development can help inform the path we're on and where we're going. Along the way you'll hear some great stories from the various .NET Rocks episodes and get some ideas of how you can take your career and your company into the future of technology.

Carl Franklin

Carl Franklin is Executive Vice President of App vNext, a software development firm focused on the latest methodologies and technologies. Carl is a 20+ year veteran of the software industry, co-host and founder of .NET Rocks!, the first and most widely listened to podcast for .NET developers, a Microsoft MVP for Kinect for Windows, a Microsoft Regional Director, and Senior Executive of Pwop Studios, a full-service audio and video production/post production studio located in Southeastern Connecticut.

Richard Campbell

Richard Campbell started playing with microcomputers in 1977 at the age of 10. He's really never done anything else since. In that time he's been involved in every level of the PC industry, from manufacturing, to sales, to development, and into large scale infrastructure implementation. He has been a witness and participant to the Bill Gates vision of "A PC on every desktop."

Looking forward to Dylan Beattie's tutorial at #ProgNET 2017!

Dylan Beattie

Dylan Beattie is a developer based in London, where he works as the tech lead at Spotlight, developing software for the theatre and casting industry. He wrote his first web page in 1994. Three years later, he found out what the Web actually was, and promptly abandoned a career in mathematics because programming looked way more fun and had at least as many brackets. He's been building Web apps on Microsoft technology since ASP was part of the Windows NT 4 Option Pack, and he was writing server-side domain models in JavaScript way before it was cool. He even once ran code in JScript.NET.

Tutorial: .NET Core Microservices from Soup to Nuts

In this workshop, Ian Cooper and Toby Henderson will guide you through creating microservices in .NET Core, from the first lines of code to deployment to Docker containers running Linux. This workshop is hands-on, and the intent will be to walk you through a typical .NET core Microservices stack. From exposing an HTTP API through inter-service messaging over MoM to running in Docker, you will discover what you need to know to build a Cloud Native application in .NET. We'll assist with repository code for items such as UI for your API, so that you can have a full-running application by the end of the session, that you can take home and use as a reference.

Ian Cooper

Ian Cooper has over 20 years of experience delivering Microsoft platform solutions in government, healthcare, and finance. When he is not writing C# code he is also the and founder of the London .NET user group.

Toby Henderson

Toby Henderson is currently an Application Architect at Huddle. Previously he worked in the finance sector as a developer, operations manager and technical architect for over 15 years. Very fussy about coffee, likes good food and booze.

Development Automation for .NET with Atomist

As developers, the better and faster you are the more you tend to automate. You automate other work, and sometimes you automate our own. You save typing with templates or IDEs. You save yourselves, mostly, from ‘user error’ through infrastructure and deployment automation. You save yourselves the task of searching out information with Slack integrations. Recognising the value of collaboration, many companies are now building custom internal bots to tie together chat, version control, build servers etc. But the truth is that most companies can't and shouldn't dedicate whole teams to streamlining development.

Atomist is taking automation even further by enabling people to build programmable development automation that automates everything from typing code to tracking status. Keep your code up-to-date with automated pull requests and generators. Keep yourselves and your team up-to-date by surfacing mini-dashboards in chat that correlate commits with builds and come complete with action buttons to cut down your context switching. Enabling effective collaboration, regardless of where the team is located.

During this session, you will learn the standard Atomist coordination, collaboration and automation tools for .NET plus how to program instant automation for your code and team.

Russ Miles

Russ' experience covers almost every facet of software delivery having worked across many different domains including Financial Services, Publishing, Defence, Insurance and Search. With over 18 years experience of consultancy, coaching and training, Russ helps to change all facets of the software delivery process in order to remove unnecessary and costly complexity in everything from developer skills and practices, through applying the right processes for the job at hand, to ensuring that the right change is delivered, be it through software or otherwise.
