Attending a Virtual Conference

Virtual events are quickly becoming the new norm but all the new platforms and tools can be a little confusing. We have put together this guide to show you everything you need to know about attending our conferences, from registration, to joining the talks and networking with sponsors.

1. Confirm your registration

Prior to the event, you will receive an email from us (sent from no-reply@hopin.to) with an invitation to the event. You must accept this registration link to access the event page. By following this link, your profile has already been created for you.





2. The Event Page

The event page begins with a reception area. In Reception, you will be able to find the event’s schedule and the list of sponsors. The event also includes 4 unique areas where items will be scheduled: Stage (view only), Sessions (interactive: you can use your video here), Networking (one-on-one interactions), and Booths (to ask questions to a Skills Matter representative and visit event sponsors).





3. Communicating on the chat

The event has a chat function located on the right hand side. Please use this to interact with others as much as you’d like. Be aware that each area of the event also has a separate chat for that specific area. Please be sure to read and adhere to our Code of Conduct.





4. Viewing the Stage

To watch Speakers present, visit the Stage area. Here you will see a live stream of the speaker talking. Press play on the video, if needed. You can also click “LIVE” on the bottom right corner to ensure what you are viewing is in time with the speaker.





5. Interacting in Sessions

Attendees can interact with speakers and others directly in Sessions. After a presentation, speakers and attendees are asked to relocate to the Sessions area to partake in a more extensive Q&A session, if desired. A speaker plus 4 attendees can have their videos on at the same time.





6. Networking

This area of the event is exactly what it sounds like! You can turn on your audio/video here and take part in a “chat roulette” with other attendees. Meetings are short but if you and the person you are meeting both click Connect your contact information will be shared. Your connections can be found in the Connections tab of your profile (this is located off of the event page on your Account page).





7. Questions & Sponsor Booths

Visit the Booths areas to check out information from the event’s sponsors. There is also a booth for you to ask questions to a Skills Matter representative.
