Aurelien is a research scientist at SDL Research, specialising in Machine Translation. He completed his Ph.D at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Prof. Bill Byrne
More information at SDL Research can be found here.
Prior to returning to academia, Aurelien worked as a software developer at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. He has experience in building large distributed systems in Java and C++.
He is interested in scalable machine learning algorithms that can handle the very large data sets found in Machine Translation.

Lightning Talks 2
Featuring Bas Geerdink, Jeff Smith, Aurelien Waite and Karl Brodowsky
This session will consist of four 15-minute talks by Jeff Smith, Aurelien (Rory) Waite, Bas Geerdnik, and Karl Brodowsky, where the following topics will be covered; numbers, computers, scala, deep learning, spark, statistics models, translationcomputers scalax scala
Scala and Statistical Machine Translation
Featuring Aurelien Waite
Statistical Machine Translation is the task of translating natural languages using statistical models. Aurelien is introducing Scala and Spark into his translation pipeline and finding it a good fit for many of the problems faced.
You will learn about the Scala based rule extractor, how Spark...deep-learning Spark statistical-models statistical-machine-translation translation scala
