Rachel "Konichiwakitty" Wong is a tissue engineer, a Maker, and a "kawaii & pastel" STEM ambassador. She specialises in using stem cells to create human organs for personalised medicine - her current PhD project involves growing eyes to study blindness. "Konichiwakitty" is her Japanese-inspired branding. It includes a combination of programming, electronics and wearables to make wearable fashion technology. She exhibits her unique wearable fashion technology projects at different events throughout the world in hopes to break stereotypes and encourage more girls to try STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Medicine) education whilst being their fun-loving self. With whatever remaining free time she has, she also runs free sponsored workshops around London to teach and inspire young children from all backgrounds. Rachel is also a mental health advocate and has given talks on the importance of self-care and a healthy work-life balance.
