A canter through visualisation techniques applied to large projects, programmes and portfolios in complex public sector organisations such as defence and rail. We will investigate what works well and why current office tools are insufficient for the good design of dashboards and Management Information. The talk will also cover the human factors of dealing with multiple project and programme teams who always believe that their projects are different. Innovation and good code design for spreadsheets, web pages and data bases is required to design solutions that companies/organisations will adopt without the need to invest in multi-million pound high-end software tools for business management. The speaker doesn’t have all the answers but can advise what has worked well over 20 years of trying.
Matthew Hood is a Chartered Engineer with more than 30 years experience in managing projects, programmes and portfolios in the public sector. He was the head of project management policy for the MOD Procurement Executive during the 1990s when MOD was introducing project management and has since set up and delivered tailored management arrangements based on PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes, Management of Portfolios, ITIL and the MOD’s Capability Management Framework.
