February Django Meetup

Tuesday, 13th February at CodeNode, London

This meetup was organised by London Django Meetup Group in February 2018

Arrive at Code Node from 6:30pm for talks starting at 7pm, followed by socialising in the Code Node Space Bar and then The Red Lion.

Monitoring Django with Prometheus

In this talk, Aaron will share what he has learned from monitoring service-oriented architectures and how similar techniques can be applied to Django applications. He will explore how metrics can be useful and look at examples with Prometheus and Google’s newly released OpenCensus library which includes a Django middleware.

Aaron Kirkbride

Aaron is an engineer at Weaveworks. He enjoys working across the stack, from DevOps to UIs, to create products which help developers like himself deploy and monitor their applications. Prior to this, he’s worked at other London-based companies including YPlan and Time Out.

How to build an IoT device using Django, Raspberry Pi and an IoT Javascript Framework

Until recently building an IoT 'thing' involved writing C or C++ code on a difficult to use embedded device. This talk will show the user the basics of using Django as a registration and identification server and a simple Javascript framework called IoT.JS that runs on your IoT 'thing'. In this example I'll be using a cheap raspberry pi zero and some LED lights to act as our IoT 'thing'. The demonstration will be live and interactive.

Nicholas Herriot

Nicholas is currently working as Web and IoT Technology Manager at the Samsung Research Institute in West London. He has a long history in working with Django web projects and IoT in the past 10 years. He recently completed a project with the Office of National Statistics in Wales for the UK Government looking at using Flask and Django microservices running on Cloud Foundry. Loves Django and has been using IoT devices right back to the first mbed and raspberry pi boards.
