Thursday, 11th August at CodeNode, London

This meetup was organised by Linuxing In London in August 2016

Overview

Linux 101

Linux is used by everyone from Google, Wikipedia, Github, NASA, CERN, Facebook, Twitter, Docker and many more. Brian Byrne will teach you the methodology of installing Linux, the operating system from scratch. He will teach you how to rejuvenate any old laptop (pre-Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10). He will explain operating system theory: why we need operating systems, what they do and how to use them.

Brian will explain partitioning, along with the tricks and traps of installing a new operating system. Participants should bring along an old, but working, laptop that can be wiped and Linux installed on it. Nice to have: an external mouse and knowledge of how to boot your laptop from CD/DVDs or USB sticks.

This is a free hands-on class, people can work in pairs or teams. If you don’t have an old laptop, but are still interested, just come along for the experience.
