Monolithic to Microservices – Transforming Infrastructure with Docker and Rancher with Phil Powell!
What questions did you come across when containerising your organisation? At this months ContainerSched Bytes join Phil to explore the key questions he came across when applying this at Alertacall!
At Alertacall, adopting containerisation was driven by the modernisation of legacy, monolithic applications in an effort to improve services and reduce cost. This transformation came with many important questions relevant to all organisations looking to modernise their estate with containers – how to maintain a high level of application security as applications become portable and distributed, how to maintain persistent data stores, integration with the older application and data estate, and also how to upskill a small team with emerging, evolving technology while maintaining quality of service.
Phil is an experienced systems architect, multi-disciplined developer and interface designer. He joined Alertacall as Chief Technology Officer after over fifteen years working for high profile clients like the BBC, Sony, Audi and Levi’s. For his creative work Phil has been nominated for a BAFTA and was awarded a prestigious Cannes Lion for his work with U2. Phil and his team of technologists are continually enhancing “Pellonia”, a system which provides daily contact for thousands of older and vulnerable people, and which is established as the best proactive contact system in the world. He's also an advocate for improving accessibility for people with disabilities, and is a member of the RSA fellowship.
