AI, Deep Learning role on Data Ethics

Wednesday, 24th May at CodeNode, London

This meetup is run by ODSC. Starts at 6:30 PM.

AI and Deep Learning are becoming increasingly important to discussions around the Ethical use of Data in commercial and government applications. The presentation covers whereThe industry is heading with the technology and algorithms available.

Enabling companies to track user interactions across platforms and channels: A startup founder's ethical dilemmas

Five years ago, Yali co-founded Snowplow: an open source platform that enables companies to track their users across multiple platforms and channels. He believes that the technology they are building can be used to do good. But when he looked at the userbase, he could see that it's used to do bad as well as good.

In the intervening years, Yali's thought a lot about how difficult it is to ensure that use user data ethically. In this talk, he hopes to share some of that thinking and encourage a debate and brainstorm about what we can do to ensure data is used more ethically.

Yali Sassoon

Yali is the co-founder of Snowplow Analytics: an open source platform that enables companies to track their users across multiple platforms and channels.

AI, Deep Learning role on Data Ethics

AI and Deep Learning are becoming increasingly important to discussions around the Ethical use of Data in commercial and government applications. The presentation covers whereThe industry is heading with the technology and algorithms available.

We discuss the balance between customer and vendor value, the use cases good and bad and the implications of “democratising AI” (Ian Sharpe's former CEO Satya Nadella’s phrase). We also take a realistic look at concepts around Surveillance Capitalism, the rise of the Grey Sheep and go on to explore areas where the current technology is maturing or still has some way to go.
