This meetup was organised by Find Your Ninja Project in May 2011


At this evening event, in a series of 3-minute lightning sessions approximately 10 Tech Companies will pitch their coding projects to software developers looking for interesting, agile projects using progressive technologies.

Lightning Talks: WhipCar

WhipCar is the world's first peer-to-peer car rental service and has already grown to over 450 towns and cities across the UK. WhipCar are looking for (at least one) awesome lead PHP developer to come and work with them.

In this Lightning session, Jason Cartwright -- founder of Potato -- presents on their Ninja Project. Potato is looking for a Django developer, to work on developing web tools and apps for huge audiences. Potato's clients currently and previously include Google, YouTube, PayPal, FHM, Nickelodeon, agencies and content websites.

David Batey is Lead Developer for Shutl. David came to Shutl from Accenture where he specialised in SAP PI/XI integration and worked on some of the most complex SAP landscapes in the UK for clients including Thomas Cook and Unilever.

Steve Romney

Steve is CTO for Shutl, and a technologist with 15 years programming experience, 8 of which spent architecting, implementing, and deploying mission critical applications in financial services and retail.

In this Lightning session, Spotlight present on their Ninja Project. We're Spotlight. We exist to promote professional actors. We're a unique hybrid of an 80-year-old company and an agile startup. We've gone from classic ASP to MVC to SOA and NServiceBus in just over three years. We're also early adopters -- we pushed nearly a million pounds' worth of sales through ASP.NET MVC before it even hit beta.

Dylan Beattie

Dylan Beattie is a systems architect, developer, and Microsoft MVP, who has built everything from tiny standalone websites to large-scale distributed systems. He created his first web page in 1992, and he's been building data-driven interactive web applications since the days of Windows NT 4. He's currently the CTO at Skills Matter in London, where he juggles his time between working on their software platform and supporting their conference and community teams. From 2003 to 2018, Dylan worked as webmaster, then IT Manager, and then systems architect at Spotlight (, where his first-hand experience of watching an organisation and its codebase evolve over more than a decade provided him with a unique insight into how everything from web standards and API design to Conway's Law and recruitment ends up influencing a company’s code and culture.

Lightning Talks: Decibel Music Systems

In this Lightning session, Decibel present on their Ninja Project. Decibel supplies metadata to the music industry, with a semantically-aware, multi-lingual search engine, and an API which can be used to create any number of products. We're looking for people with C# skills to help develop and optimise our API, plus Ruby and Objective C programmers to produce prototype products.

Lightning Talks: BraveNewTalent

BraveNewTalent is a startup in the social recruitment and education space. We're building on a LAMP stack, using Zend framework, and are set up for continuous integration along with Scrum to allow us to keep up an agile development process.

Janna is Head of Product at BraveNewTalent, a social recruiting platform which enables employers to engage with and hire from a community of individuals that connect to them in a professional way.

LightningTalks: 10Gen

In this Lightening Session, Gerry Treacy (Director of Sales for 10Gen) presents on their Ninja Project. 10gen develops MongoDB, and offers production support, training, and consulting for the open source database.
