Flash is now unwelcome or unsupported in most browsers. But not all of its convenience and functionality is readily replaced. For simple animated illustrations, such as those used in engineering and plant control, the combination of D3 and suitably prepared SVG layouts is an excellent substitute. This talk explains the technique.
