SkillsCast

Full stack Quants meetup

27th September 2016 in London at CodeNode

This SkillsCast was filmed at Full stack Quants meetup

Robert Hardy will present a live coding session in which we code up a basic web application with Python and JavaScript. You do not need to know Python or JavaScript at all, the technical level will be kept as simple as possible. The aim is to demonstrate how all the pieces of web development fit together. All the coding will be published live to GitHub, so you can follow along on your own laptop if you wish, or revisit afterwards. Web applications are almost always built from the same basic blocks: • a backend server connected to a database, • which delivers HTML files to the browser, • with embedded JavaScript to handle user interaction. We will see how to set up a simple server in Python, then gradually add interactivity with JavaScript. Using the SQLite database included in Python's standard library we will store user data and demonstrate the ideas of a RESTful API that serves JSON.
